The 2024 season is one Eagles defensive end Bryce Huff would likely prefer to forget, and that feeling may continue after learning he will miss time due to a lingering injury.
According to a league source, Huff is set to undergo surgery on his left wrist Thursday, sidelining him for the foreseeable future. There is optimism he could return later this season, with the procedure expected to improve functionality in the wrist. The injury initially occurred before the Eagles’ Week 9 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. While warming up, Huff experienced discomfort in his wrist. Trainers taped the wrist, but he played only six snaps during the game.
Huff saw a slight increase in snaps against the Dallas Cowboys, but it was clear his role had shifted to the back of the edge rusher rotation. The decision to undergo surgery provides Huff an opportunity to recover and refocus off the field, with the potential to make an impact during the playoffs.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni later confirmed the news during a press conference Wednesday and spoke about Huff’s pending absence.
“This will hopefully help him get some more function in that hand, and we’ll see as the season continues,” Sirianni said. “I can’t say enough about how he tried to battle through and tried to keep going through it. Hopefully this helps him.”
Huff, who signed a three-year, $51.1 million contract this offseason, has struggled to generate sacks this year. Through 10 games, he has recorded 2.5 sacks, three quarterback hurries, eight pressures, and three tackles for loss.
With Huff out, linebacker Jalyx Hunt is expected to see an increased workload. Hunt, the team’s third round pick in this year’s draft, started out on special teams but has seen an increase in his time on defense, out-snapping Huff during the games against the Jaguars and the Dallas Cowboys. However, Hunt did not play a defensive snap in Thursday’s win over the Washington Commanders. Hunt was expected to be a developmental player as he continues to learn the edge rusher position more after starting his college career as a safety. However, his quickness around offensive linemen in his limited time on the field has been noticeable, with Hunt having a sack and three tackles so far this season.
